The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) is the world's largest membership organisation dedicated to the profession, with over 28,000 members working in more than 100 countries. They uphold standards, share knowledge, promote structural engineering and provide a voice for the profession. Their goal is to ensure that everyone can live safe and secure in the built environment that surrounds them.

IStructE's identity was previously updated in 2009, but unfortunately did not age well. As their product suite and communication channels expanded, their identity did not keep up with their requirements – leading to a lack of consistency among their suite of products, and causing navigation challenges for their audiences.

The solution was to overhaul their corporate brand, update their assets and apply them consistently. Working together with a brand consultant, we developed a new brand platform, a visual and verbal identity, brand guidelines and a suite of live products.

A key part of applying the brand was to develop a 'product matrix' to help distribute the new assets. A decision tree was created to decide where/how the brand elements should be used, and to help differentiate between products and services, thereby aiding navigation.
